Throughout Desuvis, three guilds have established themselves as essential for their ability to organize effective solutions to problems larger than one person can fix alone. They offer services large and small, as well as training for those with more heart than skill. The first to be established was the Adventurer’s Guild in Edrien. As the story goes, the city of Tabria was beset by two dragons, Kaost and Surma, who held tight control of all the residents. Koast, a green dragon, used them to build vast troves of treasure by pilfering the lands around them, while Surma, a white dragon, served as an executioner to any who objected to Kaost’s absolute authority… or any unlucky enough to cross her path while she’s hungry. While many citizens chose the path of compliance in the hopes of saving themselves and their loved ones, others met in secret to find a way to defeat Kaost and Surma. These rebels watched the routines and habits of their oppressors, built an information network, quietly grew their numbers, and utilized all their various skills to liberate Tabria and chase the beasts past the great mountains to the north. These courageous heroes would go on to form the Adventurer’s Guild, which now has branches in every country, aside from Keplia. Their motto is, “We rise together, or not at all.”

The Mage’s Guild was the next to form, according to public records. This guild branched off from the Adventurer’s Guild due to a need for more than combat training. This guild, while they still form teams to handle jobs, focuses greatly on the study of mana and the development of new spells and techniques. They first gained renown for their creation of combined spells, which allowed mages to work in concert to create a more impactful outcome than one could alone. This discovery of combination techniques changed the tides of the status quo, as did their discovery of layered spells and their extensive research into mana auras and signatures. Their work is invaluable and has allowed for both expedient advancement and cataclysmic destruction. Their motto is, “Knowledge shields where swords cannot parry.”

The final guild is known as The Order of the Black Rose, and its original creation is a bit of a mystery. Historians know it was formed out of a need to handle the more… unsavory jobs, but the when and how are often explained in terms of speculation rather than fact. While virtue and honesty are ideals for beings everywhere, there are undoubtedly times when underhanded methods are necessary, as are the people needed to complete such jobs. The Order commands the largest information network in Desuvis and they’re even rumored to have agents in Keplia, which is a boast only they can make. Their motto is, “Black rose thorns sink deeper than daggers.”
